Abby Kulkin, MA, CDP, LMFTA

Individual, adolescent and family therapist

Life’s challenges can take many forms, such as relationship distress, anxiety, depression, trauma or substance abuse. My role is to work collaboratively with individuals and families, helping them build on their inherent strengths and develop more effective ways of coping with what life throws their way. I take into consideration each client’s systemic factors such as family history, social context, and cultural background. My practice integrates a variety of evidence based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy. I work with clients to change unhelpful thinking and behavioral patterns, and to guide them in rewriting their own personal stories in a way that leads to solutions and renewed hope.

Background and Experience

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist associate (LMFTA) in the state of Washington (LIC#MG60676922), a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and received my master’s degree from Antioch University. I have spent the past seven years in a variety of clinical roles, working in community mental health settings supporting children, adolescents, and families. Prior to pursuing a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, my career began as a licensed Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) working with adolescents through in-patient and intensive outpatient treatment programs. My own path as a member of the recovery community adds to my special interest in helping those in early recovery. This includes support for families as they navigate the challenges of coping with a loved one struggling with substance abuse.

When I’m not in the therapy office I can be found outside enjoying all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I am an avid rock climber, trail runner, and potter.
